TRAINING
Crate training is important with this and any breed of dog. Using the crate only for sleeping or potty training. Never use for discipline. Your new puppy comes with its own crate for training. We suggest also using newspapers or wee wee pads for training inside your house. This is a small breed dog and can be litter box trained such as a cat. Most big pet stores sell litter boxes and litter for small dogs, such as Pet Co. Once your puppy is paper or litter box trained it also can learn to go outside. Steps for Training:
After feeding your puppy you have 0-20 minutes until they have to go potty. You should be aware of the signs, running in circles, sniffing etc…. this is the time to pick your puppy up and put him or her on the papers or outside (using the same spot outside). Give your puppy a name for going potty. Of course we use “go potty” you may want to use something different for each situation. Go pee pee, or poo pee. This comes in handy when traveling in the car for long rides. Keep puppy in the crate at night and first thing in the morning before feeding take to designated spot for potty. If your puppy does not go immediately them place back in the crate for a few more minutes then take him or her back out to potty spot. Puppies should not stay in a crate more than a few hours unless overnight. Make sure your puppy has gone potty before going to bed. If your puppy has an accident in the house, only reprimand if you have witnessed it. Puppies have very little memory after the fact, so you have to correct the mistake when it is fresh in their minds. Clean accidents up with a paper towel then put in the designated potty spot, potty papers, litter box or outside. Then place puppy their also. The scent should make him or her learn where the correct spot is to be. Never give your new puppy free roam of your house until it is somewhat house broken. Do expect accidents. This is a very small breed with very small bladders. If you train your puppy with commands you should reward with treats. Consistency is the key in the learning process, I go potty in the potty spot and I get treats!!! We suggest spending as much time as possible with your new puppy to get them trained within a month if not weeks.
